Some people dream of going on trips to tropical vistas, mountaintop resorts, or bustling city escapes. Others prefer traveling to destinations that value fashion and art. Comparing trends in fashionable cities to your home location can be a great way to inspire or invigorate your wardrobe with fresh, new pieces and styles.
Not only do these cities boast some amazing history, fashion trends, and architecture, but they are fantastic places to vacation for a fun trip by yourself, with your friends, or even your family.
1. New York City, USA
We wouldn’t be talking about fashionable cities if New York wasn’t on the list. New York has a long history with fashion that dates all the way back to the 19th century. The combination of densely populated garment factories, the rise of department stores, and readily available creative designers made NYC a fashion hub early on in modern history.
While the city’s fashion districts are now more spread out than ever before, you can still catch glimpses of New York’s fashionable past when walking through the Garment District. Plus, you’ll probably come across some really creative individuals or fashion influencers while you’re there.
Top places to see: Fifth Avenue, Dover Street Market, and the Museum at FIT.
2. Paris, France
Paris is one of the oldest fashion capitals in the world. Expect to see light, neutral colors, sharp silhouettes, classic patterns, the finest of details, and some of the world’s finest fashion designers.
Parisian style is iconic and timeless, with lots of trench coats, skirts paired with tights and heels, and berets galore—Paris is truly an amazing fashion destination for those who like timeless, classic beauty and design.
Fashion spots to see on your next trip: Musée de la Mode et du Textile, Boulevard Saint-Germain, and Le Marais district.
3. Tokyo, Japan
Most people think of Tokyo as a crowded, bustling city with bright neon lights and very efficient transportation options. While this is true, what many people don’t realize is that Tokyo is the epi-center of fashion in Japan.
Japanese fashion trends range from sleek, minimalist street style trends, all the way to clashing prints, and knitted headwear as the latest in harajuku style.
Iconic fashion districts to see: Harajuku, Ginza, and Shimokitazawa.
4. London, England
London is iconic for more than the Beatles and punk-rock grunge. London boasts fashion trends set by royalty and streetwear influencers alike. Similar to Paris, you’ll find many trench coats and (the infamous) black Chelsea boots being worn around the city.
With the wildly popular show Bridgerton amongst Gen-Z and Millennials, you’ll be sure to catch more bustiers and corsets this year as they gain in popularity from last year as the show takes fashion influences from Victorian-era England.
Fashionable Places to hit on your next visit: SoHo, Camden, and Oxford Street.
